How has your journey with LCP been so far?

Benito: It may sound clichéd, but I’ve loved every minute. Everyone has been so welcoming, and I already feel very involved in the team.

Jess: I feel like I’ve been really welcomed into LCP, and it’s great how social the business is. In particular, the sports side has really stood out for me. I play badminton, football and I’m trying netball as well!

Ben: My team had a social where we went to Market Halls on Oxford Street, followed by pottery making, which I’d never done before. It was a fun way to get to know the team outside of work and try something new.

Why did you choose to join LCP? What were your first impressions?

Benito: The Assessment Centre was such a highlight. They can feel much the same, and be quite awkward, but LCP’s was different. Everyone was so friendly and nice. We were also taken out for a wonderful lunch. At the time I thought “I may not even be hired at LCP, but they’re willing to spend budget to ensure I have an enjoyable experience”. That stuck with me and made me feel valued.

Jess: My university’s Actuarial Society is sponsored by LCP and when I attended some of LCP's talks they always seemed like a friendly company who cares about their people. Our President of the Society had also completed the internship here and their experience really sparked my interest.

Vivienne: I was really drawn to the DEI networks. I met someone from the LGBTQ+ Network at an external event, which inspired me to apply to LCP because they seemed like a really genuine, inclusive workplace.

Katerina: I think the people aspect is what makes LCP such a great place to work. Before attending my interview, I reached out to some recent grads and everyone was super friendly and helpful which left a positive impression on me right away and also provided me with some insightful tips for the interview day!

What’s the most interesting or unexpected thing you’ve learned in your role so far?

Katerina: I didn’t know we had a Responsible Investment (RI) Research team within DC. But now I’m part of the team, I get to do research on responsible investment, which I didn’t expect, and I personally find it really interesting.

Lalana: I agree - I didn’t realise the variety of work we can get involved with, which has been fun and really interesting. I’ve also been working with the RI team which has been insightful!

Ben: I’ve found learning about InsurSight really interesting, which is a reserving platform that LCP developed. This is the process insurance companies use to set aside funds for future claims. I have been using the software for a couple of client projects and find it interesting how it accelerates the reserving process and allows you to identify patterns in the data very easily.

How has it been joining your respective teams?

Rob: My experience is slightly different to others. I was originally an Actuarial Intern before moving departments. I loved being at LCP, but I wanted to work on projects that felt better suited to my skills, so I asked if I could move departments to P&I Technology. My team are great and I feel like I’m settling in well. We recently had a golf social too which was a lot of fun!

Vivienne: Everyone has been super approachable, and the buddy system has been great. I’ve felt included from day one. The training has been really good, and there’s always someone I can go to if I have questions.

Daniel: Everyone is keen to get us involved in different things, both professionally and socially which is great. The team are so engaging and have been a lot of fun to work with already.

What are you most excited about from your role?

Liv: I’m excited to get more involved in client work. I’m part of a client team, so I have fixed clients that I’ll work on and its been nice getting to know the client work in more detail for each team.

Rob: I’ve almost finished my training, so I’ll soon start writing code that will be published and used by the rest of the firm! I’m excited to see something I’ve worked on be used by hundreds of people!

Benito: I’m excited by the potential progression. When I see more senior colleagues on my team effortlessly navigating the pensions world, it’s really inspiring. It’s exciting to think about how I’ll progress and what that might look like.

Jess: I’m keen to become more embedded, even if it’s just shadowing client meetings at first. But I’m looking forward to getting more involved and helping the team.

Daniel: Being able to continually develop – I like learning and seeing myself improve, and I’m seeing that happen already with new pieces of work and learning lots of interesting things.

What advice would you give to other new joiners in the firm?

Liv: Enjoy it, meet people and make the most of that first week of training. LCP offers a lot of opportunities, both work-related and socially – so make the most of it.

Vivienne: Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Everyone here is friendly and approachable, and they’re always happy to help.

Daniel: Get involved with everything and speak to everybody. Everyone’s friendly and happy to have a chat. LCP is a nice place to be, so don’t be afraid to get out there and integrate yourself.

Lalana: Say yes to opportunities to work on projects besides your client work, it’s great for getting to know people you wouldn’t have otherwise come across and adds variety to your work.
