Senior Consultant Developer

LCP is a leading independent, owner-managed pensions, investment and insurance consultancy in the UK and Ireland.  We help our clients leverage the latest technology and analytics across a range of industries to help them be at the forefront of data driven and digital solutions. Our aim as a business is to take complex real-world problems and help to solve them using technology. The models we are responsible for help client-facing teams produce advice that is clear, timely and informative and help our clients understand complex problems so they can take appropriate actions.

Who are the team?

The Pensions & Investment Tech team develop and maintain a range of models for LCP’s Pensions and Investment departments. You will join the “asset tech” team who specialise in building asset-related technology for our Investment department – for example, monitoring asset portfolios and asset-liability modelling.  The team contains a mix of skillsets and experience levels – from those who used to work in Investment consulting and asset fund management to developers with no prior experience of investment and graduates. The plans for our asset tech are ambitious and we need to expand our team at a senior level to be able to deliver the business needs.  This will be a hands-on role and we are looking for you to be prepared to get your hands dirty and be involved in the thick of it.

What will you be doing?

We are looking for someone to join the asset tech team in a senior role with experience in both C# development and investment consulting/asset management/asset-based technology.

This will be a hands-on role, you will be required to lead on the development of new features and tools as well as helping ensure the existing suite of asset tech tools remain fit for purpose.  This will involve being a key point of contact for the business – for example, when agreeing the specifications of new features and agreeing a testing/sign-off process, as well as responding to ongoing feature requests, feedback and questions.

You will need to be comfortable talking to senior individuals within the Investment department about technical asset modelling concepts as well as senior individuals within the wider development team about technical software development issues.

We’re looking for someone who can own things – someone who enjoys the challenge of getting to know a new product, takes pride in the quality of that product and wants to deliver high quality technology that provides good business value.

Mentoring and the development of others within the team is a required quality for everyone in the team and will play a key part in this role.  A key part of this role will be sharing knowledge with less experienced members of the team and reviewing code.  It will also be important for the person taking this role to be able to respond well to feedback from senior members of the team, the wider development team and the Investment side of the business.  We believe that nobody knows everything - even senior individuals need to be open to challenge, looking to develop themselves and willing to invite and respond to alternative views.

What skills, experience and qualities are we looking for?

Our investment models are Azure-based, written in C#, talking to a SQL database, with a web (vue) frontend. To be successful, you’ll be enthusiastic about learning more about the areas you may currently have less experience in.

Key Requirements:

  • Demonstrable regular/heavy use of Microsoft Azure over a sustained period of time
  • Demonstrable C#/.NET over a sustained period of time
  • SQL databases experience on a regular basis over a sustained period of time
  • Experience developing/mentoring less experienced developers
  • Investment or investment tech background, sufficient experience to be able to talk directly to senior colleagues from the Investment department about their tech requirements, with the ability to pass on investment knowledge to more junior colleagues, most likely gained in the setting of an investment bank, advising defined benefit pension schemes on their investment strategies for an actuarial consultancy or developing asset monitoring or asset liability technology

Desirable/helpful:

  • Familiarity with web-based frontend technologies (eg vue, react, javascript, html)
  • Agile methodology – eg refinement, planning, code reviews
  • ORM experience (Entity Framework, Dapper)
  • Testing experience (Unit tests/integration tests using Moq, xUnit etc)
  • Experience with CI/CD – YAML pipelines
  • Non-relational databases (Cosmos, Azure Table Storage)
  • Professional qualifications: CFA or IFoA (with an investment focus)
