C&I (Energy) Consultant
LCP Delta are looking for a Consultant specialising in C&I (commercial and industrial) sector research, who can play a key role in driving our consultancy business and support our future growth. Helping our B2B clients (energy service companies, technology and software providers, energy retailers, etc.) grow in and develop services & solutions for decarbonising the C&I sector is a growing core area for LCP Delta. As such, we are expanding our C&I research portfolio and offerings to cover opportunities in the energy services, corporate power purchase agreement (cPPAs), and net zero-as-a-service (NZaaS) markets.
There is some flexibility to the focus of this role given the breadth of this sector, but the opportunity exists around several topics related to the C&I sector: heat (including industrial heat pumps), ventilation, cooling, building energy management systems, solar, battery, EV charging, cogeneration and related services.
This is a great opportunity to:
- Develop, manage and deliver leading-edge C&I consulting projects focused on the C&I sector across Europe. See below for example of projects we deliver in this space
- Build and develop a pipeline of C&I consulting projects leveraging relationships with a range of industry players (both of LCP Delta’s current client base and new prospects)
- Become a recognised thought leader in this space
What will you be doing?
- Leading consulting business development activities in the C&I space, by positioning LCP Delta as a strategic partner for clients, and actively generating a pipeline of consulting opportunities. Projects are likely to:
- Focus on market analysis and landscaping, understanding C&I customers, business case analysis, supporting our clients with strategic opportunities in the C&I sector (see example projects below)
- Be for a range of clients including technology manufacturers, energy suppliers, energy service companies, Government, investors, etc
- Focus on a range of technologies and energy services
- Leading and writing consultancy proposals
- Managing consultancy projects (mix of large and small, usually more than one at the same time)
- Managing input from others within the team to effectively deliver projects and proposals
- Conducting in-depth research and analysis, including qualitative and quantitative methods
- Providing expert insight and opinion on C&I (energy) topics to clients and internal colleagues
- Delivering reports and engaging content to our consultancy clients, including delivering presentations
- Close working with our Head of C&I and a range of other internal colleagues across different research areas and the consultancy team
- Building and maintaining relationships with industry players and working closely with clients, developing client relationships
- Supporting marketing activities around the C&I sector
- Supporting other projects in the consulting team outside of the C&I space as required, particularly around residential heat and business models (e.g. energy-as-a-service)

Through working closely with our research team, we deliver high value consultancy using the latest market insights. In the C&I (energy) space, possible projects could include:
- Market sizing for the global energy services market for a major technology and energy services provider
- Customer segmentation and insights for the C&I sector across segments such as retail, offices, healthcare, education, hospitality, heavy and light industries, etc
- Data and insights for an energy supplier on commercial heating / cooling to support business planning
- Energy contract benchmarking compared to client’s key competitors and industry standard (looking at metrics such as contract lengths, services offered, IRR, availability and savings guarantees (%) minimum off-take, etc.)
- Strategic support for an energy services company (ESCo) looking to expand into the C&I space
- Identifying opportunities for various business models in the C&I segment (e.g. Energy Performance contracts, Lighting-as-a-Service, Net Zero-as-a-Service)
- Commercial due diligence for an investment into a high-temperature industrial heat pump company
- Assessing gas demand for the commercial and industrial sector for a gas network operator
- Competitor analysis around providers of controls, building-level or multi-site energy management, and building services
What skills, experience and qualities are we looking for?
- Proven experience of working in the C&I (energy) space. Experience in either a consulting / market research setting, or within industry (e.g. C&I HVAC manufacturer, corporate PPA company), would be highly desirable
- A comprehensive understanding of C&I energy technologies, C&I energy services and the market landscape, including key industry players. Insight into C&I customer propositions and customer needs focusing on various customer segments would be an advantage
- An existing network within the C&I industry and excellent relationship-building skills. We anticipate the role to involve developing relationships with new industry contacts, including attending events, and managing relationships with existing clients
- A desire to grow your knowledge base and become a recognised thought leader
- Experience of undertaking – and preferably leading – business development opportunities
- Experience in leading teams to deliver projects
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a team player
- Thought leadership and strong analytical skills – an ability to simplify complexity
- Ability to manage a varied workload and multiple deadlines, with good organisational skills
- Language skills (other than English) would be desirable given the nature of our research is pan-European
- Experience in conducting and managing market research projects would be desirable. Research methods include face-to-face and telephone discussion with industry experts and other professionals, and desk-based research
